Day 18 – Ten Reasons Why You Should Detox

Hi everyone!

It’s Day 18 of my 28 day detox diet, so I’ve just ten more days to go!  Woo hoo!

I haven’t updated this blog for a few days, as it’s been a crazy week for me.  My husband had to go to London to testify as a witness in a high-profile trial this week.  It was a stressful time for the family.

I had thought that I could get on with a lot of writing while he was away.  However, once the girls were in bed, I found myself flopping in front of the TV and ended up dozing there three nights in a row!

However, I’m happy to report that the diet is going great!  I’ve stuck to it faithfully this week, ignoring the temptations of biscuits, cakes and sweets.

A colleague of mine remarked that he definitely had noticed that my face looked thinner.  I had noticed that myself.  I also feel that my clothes are a little looser and my skin and hair is in better condition.  This makes it all feel worthwhile.

Here are ten good reasons why you should eat the detox way:

  1. You’ll lose excess weight – Carol advises you not to weigh yourself until the end of the diet, so I’ll find out in ten days time how much weight I’ve lost.  The last time I went on this diet I lost just under a stone (11lbs).
  2. Cellulite will diminish – Cellulite is believed to be caused by toxin build up in fatty tissue.  By following a detox diet and dry body brushing before bathing, you should notice a reduction in cellulite.
  3. You’ll feel more energetic – I must admit that I haven’t felt very energetic this week, but I don’t think that has anything to do with this diet.  Last weekend, I felt a lot more energetic than usual.
  4. You’ll get fewer colds – All the extra vitimins consumed during this detox should help to ward off colds and flu.  My daughters both had really bad colds when I started this diet, and I didn’t catch it!  Coincidence?  Maybe.
  5. You’ll get rid of bloating – I think the noticable difference in my face and the looseness of my clothes has a lot to do with me being less bloated, rather than simply losing weight.
  6. Your skin will look smoother – I have noticed that my skin looks much better since starting this diet.
  7. You’ll enjoy better health – This diet is very low in fat, very high in vitimins, nutrients and anti-oxidants.  How can you not be healthier on it?!
  8. Your hair will shine – I have noticed that my hair looks far more healthy and shiny.
  9. You’ll feel calmer – It has been a stressful week this week, but I suppose I may have felt the effects more on a poorer diet.  I’m happy to report that I did not turn to comfort foods, as I have done in the past.
  10. You can lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol – The only fats you eat on this diet are healthy ones from nuts and seeds and olives.

So, why not give it a go?  Now is the perfect time to detox, in preparation of the forthcoming festive season.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Oops, I read this on the wrong morning. I’m baking some devilishly delicious apple pies this morning.

I’ve been doing research on detoxing and the beneficial properties for your body and health.

    These are great tips.

    Thanks for the information.

I hope things get back to normal soon for you and your family,

    Best Wishe,
    Lukeither

  2. @ Lukeither – LOL. ‘Devilishly delicious apple pies’ – my favourite! ;-)

A detox alternative would be baked apples with honey and raisins.

Thanks for your comment, and good luck with any future detox!…

  4. Well done for getting so far. I am starting today after reading a bit on the internet and your blog. I will do 1 week so far (going to Orlando in a week, so will not be able to do it then i think) and when i come bac maybe the rest of the time or another 28 days! So what happens after you have done the 28 days? Is there a particular diet you have to follow so your body doesn’t get a shock when you start eating normally again?

  5. @Susanne – Thanks for your comments and I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been inspired to start a detox diet too!

I certainly wouldn’t advise you to follow this diet on your trip to Orlando. The diet is quite restrictive, and it can be difficult to stick to it if dining out. I think it’s best to wait until you return from your trip.

After the 28 days, I’ll be following a Maintenance Diet, where I can re-introduce a selection of foods such as lean meat, white & oily fish, skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, low fat cheeses & yoghurts and wholemeal bread.

I will be blogging more about the maintenance diet later.

I hope you have a great trip and I look forward to hearing how you get on with your detox diet!…

  6. Thank you! Well, i have started it just for this week and will then stop once i go to Orlando.. i know i wouldnt be able to do it while im there. But just want to do a little something before going:) Great i’ll love to hear about your maintenance diet and what that contains as I will probably need some good tips :) How are you getting on? Have just made a broccoli and bean soup that was a recipe from Carol… it was really delicious!!
